Capital campaign for Sister Emma Cottage

Plans are underway to construct a new state of the art cottage to house children with severe physical and developmental disabilities.  The new cottage will accommodate up to 15 children with room to expand as the need arises.  The cost of the building and equiping this new facility on the Queen Louise Home campus is $2.4 million.

Endowment and Legacy Society: These gifts are earmarked for the endowment fund of Lutheran Social Services of the VI.  Endowment and legacy gifts and the donors of such gifts are commemorated on a hand-carved mahogany giving tree located in the lobby of the Queen Louise Home for Children.

Queen Louise Home for Children: Gifts to Queen Louise Home help cover the costs of special tutoring, counseling, physical therapy, and extraordinary medical expense.

Senior and Disabled Housing: Lutheran Social Services manages 98 units of federally subsidized housing for low-income seniors and andther 41 units for adults with disabililties who can live independently. Support for this program helps to supplement client services such as regular visits from nurses, security, and transportation.

Sponsor A Child: For a donation of $1,200 a year, you can sponsor a specific child at Queen Louise Home.  When you sponsor a child, you receive a quarterly report on your child's progress and a recent photo.  Make a difference for a special child.  Payments can be one-time, monthly, or quarterly.

Adults with Disabilities: Lutheran Social Services currently operates two group homes for acults with disabilities.  Support for these facilities is used to enhance the quality of life for residents which can include purchasing furnishings, paying for counseling and therapy, special medical equipment, and outings for the clients.  Gifts may be designated for either Ginger Thomas (St. Croix) or Yellow Cedar (St. Thomas).

Special Needs

Wheelchairs:  Many LSS clients, both children and adults, must use wheelchairs.  These chairs do not last forever in any event, and in the case of children, are often outgrown.  Your gift to this Special Need area hleps to purchase new wheelchairs as the old ones wear out.

Wheelchair Van: The agency needs a wheelchair accessible van to transport clients for a variety of reasons:  to school, for medical appointments and for group outings.
