Yellow Cedar (St. Thomas)

In 1993, LSSVI opened its first Group Home, the Ginger Thomas Residence, on St. Thomas to house 12 adults with physical and developmental disabilities. The facility was severely damaged during 1995's Hurricane Marilyn and the residents were relocated to St. Croix 's Prince Street Residence which is now operated as Ginger Thomas. A decade later, the original Ginger Thomas Group Home was renovated and re-opened as the Yellow Cedar (another name for the Ginger Thomas flower) Group Home to house adults with more moderate disabilities than the residents of Ginger Thomas.

Located in Estate Annas Retreat, St. Thomas, Yellow Cedar is 12 bed group home for the long term care of developmentally disabled adults. The facility provides 24 hour care, as well as, housing, supervision, health and supportive services for low income, developmentally disabled adults and to assist "higher level" residents in learning to live independently.

Programs:

  • Job Coaching provides job training and supported employment for residents
  • Life Skills provides residents with necessary life skills training
  • Self-Actualization/Habilitation provides training to residents and staff to help residents in all areas of life to help them achieve greater independence. Residents learn through a number of socialization, recreational and educational activities that help them reach their goals in a fun setting.
