Danish Gardens Apartments
Danish Gardens is housed in the upper two floors of the old Queen Louise Home building on Hospital Street, Frederiksted. The facility, which opened in 1993, contains seven federally subsidized apartments for physically and/or mentally disabled adults capable of independent living and provides sufficient support services to keep residents functioning at a high level. These services include housing management and maintenance, limited social work and nursing managed care, limited transportation and homemaker services.
Danish Gardens consists of 6 one bedroom apartments and 1 two bedroom apartment. The three "ground accessible" apartments are wheelchair accessible while the four upstairs apartment require ambulatory clients. Residents may have children. Because the facility is federally subsidized, residents pay rent of 30% of their income after adjustments.
Genip Gardens
Genip Gardens opened in 1996 with 20 subsidized appartments for low-income senior citizens and developmentally disabled adults who are capable of independent living. Rental assistance funding allows for apartment management and maintenance costs. Some social work, nursing, transportation and homemaker services are provided.
The facility is located on Prince Street, Frederiksted. 20 apartments are located in 5 fourplexes joined by sidewalks. Each building is two stories with 2 one bedroom apartments on each floor. A small laundry facility completes the complex. Residents have access to the Prince Street Community Center for activities.
Bougainvillea Gardens
Bougainvillea Gardens is LSS' newest program. It is a 14 apartment complex in Frederiksted providing rent-subsidized, service-enriched, independent living for adults with disabilities. Some social work, nursing, transportation and homemaker services are provided.
Bougainvillea Gardens is made up of 12 one-bedroom aparatments and 2 two-bedroom apartments. The three story facility has an elevator and a community room on the first floor which can be used for meetings, tenant recreation and other events.
